About ISR

Founded in 1966 by Dr. Harvey Barnett, Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) is now the global leader in the industry it pioneered: survival swimming lessons for infants and young children. Our team of more than 1,000 Certified ISR Instructors in more than 20 countries provides the safest and most effective survival swimming lessons available. The ISR Self-Rescue instruction our students receive today is the product of more than 50 years of research and development and has resulted in more than 15 million safe lessons worldwide.

ISR believes that pool fences, supervision, and pool alarms are important parts of a necessary multi-layered approach to drowning prevention. However, traditional lines of defense break down, and the over 4,000 drowning deaths per year bear a grim testament to the fact that traditional approaches are missing a key component: the child. ISR’s core conviction is that the child is the most important part of a drowning prevention strategy.

Children are curiouscapable, and have an uncanny ability to overcome obstacles like pool fences; at ISR we take that ability and teach them skills to potentially save themselves if they find themselves in the water alone.

Meet Your Instructor

My name is Sarah Frey, and I’m so glad you’ve found ISR of the Pines!

I am a military spouse of 14 years and a mom of four! My family planted roots in Moore County, NC in 2021. Since then, I have had the pleasure of teaching over 200 children to swim and float safely in our community.

Having grown up a swimmer with a pool in my backyard, I always emphasize water safety with my kids. I spent hours teaching my boys traditional swimming techniques before they turned 2.

While enjoying the pool one summer day, my toddler unexpectedly flipped off a float in the middle of the pool. It was sudden and silent. I saw him struggling underwater in a vertical posture, trying to tread water, with absolute terror in his eyes. Those traditional swim techniques did absolutely nothing to help him. My son would have drowned had I not been watching intently. I jumped into the pool and pulled him out of the water, before the other adults around us even realized what was happening. It was the longest and scariest moment of my life. I’m thankful that this accident didn’t have a devastating ending for my family. That same day, I researched ISR lessons near me (Clarksville Swim Co.) and signed my sons up. As an ISR swim parent, I immediately recognized that these lessons were incredible. My boys finished their lessons with the ability to be aquatic problem solvers.

I experienced firsthand the importance and significance of survival swim lessons. I knew that becoming an ISR Instructor was what I needed to do. I share my story to spread awareness and educate parents about drowning prevention. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children between 1-4. As a Certified ISR Instructor, I strive to make a lasting difference for the children in my community by giving them potentially life-saving skills, competence, and confidence in the water. I consider it pure joy and an incredible blessing to provide these children with the gift of a lifetime.

I look forward to teaching your child and working together to ensure that “not one more child drowns!”
